What is Worm Juice?
Worm Juice is a broad term used to describe biological liquids derived from worm cast. Worms Downunder's Worm Juice (Worm Brew) is a concentrated liquid soil amendment used to regenerate soils for improved farming outcomes. DNA testing shows that our Worm Juice is abundant in beneficial bacterial and fungi with exceptionally high levels of disease-suppressive markers. These microbes reduce nutrient lockup in the soil, making more of what’s applied or already present usable to crops. Although Worm Juice is primarily a microbial amendment, the concentrate also contains some essential nutrients, plant growth promoters, hormones and enzymes which support critical biological and chemical processes.
Worm Juice is an important part of the puzzle, particularly when incorporated alongside nutrition applications.

Benefits of Incorporating Worm Juice Into Your Soil Programs
The microbes that are present in Worm Juice assist with critical biological and chemical processes such as:
- Mineralisaiton: Microbes are the delivery system for nutrients to the plant
- Nitrogen Fixation: Converts atmospheric nitrogen into a form usable by plants
- Phosphorus Solubilisation and Mobilisation: Converts insoluble phosphorus into forms that plants can absorb. This improves root uptake and overall plant productivity.
- Decomposition, Organic Matter Breakdown and Water Retention: Breaks down complex organic material (e.g. plant residues, compost) into simpler compounds, enriching the soil with humus and improving water retention with the resulting exudates.
- Soil Structure Improvement: The microbes release exudates that help form stable soil aggregates, increasing aeration, drainage, and root penetration, which improves soil health long-term.

Benefits of Incorporating Worm Juice with Nutrition
Mixing a nutrient source with your application such as urea, MAP, DAP, Super to Worm Juice kicks microbial activity into high gear. These microbes—bacteria and fungi—feed on the extra nutrients, multiplying faster and ramping up their work. For example, nitrogen-fixing bacteria convert more atmospheric N₂ into ammonium (NH₄⁺), while others turn urea’s nitrogen into plant-available nitrates (NO₃⁻) through nitrification.
Phosphorus-solubilising microbes release organic acids that dissolve bound phosphorus into phosphates (PO₄³⁻), ready for roots to take up. This process cuts nutrient lock-ups in the soil, making more of what’s applied or already present usable to crops. The result? Less money sitting in the soil, better nutrient cycling, and a soil system that delivers what plants need, when they need it.
Commercial Use Cases For Worm Juice
Worm Juice is highly versatile and can be used across a range of farming systems:
-
Grazing Ruminants
Improve pasture recovery times, increase Brix levels and nutrition in pastures leading to healthier stock and greater weight gains.
-
Orchards & Vineyards
Strengthen trees, improve fruit set, increase yield and combat surface diseases.
-
Market Gardens
Promote faster growth, higher Brix levels and improved nutritional value in produce.
-
Broadacre Crops
Support more efficient nutrient uptake to enable reduced synthetic inputs, increased germination rates, improved stalk strength.
-
Soil Restoration Projects
Rebuild degraded soils, increase microbe populations and humus levels and improve water retention.
-
Horticulture
Improve fruit set, increase yield and combat surface diseases.
Frequently Asked Questions
What's the difference between Worm Juice and leachates?
Worm Juice is a concentrated liquid extracted from premium worm cast put through a brewing process that extracts and multiples the beneficial microbes. Leachates tend to be less concentrated, obtained by passing water through a worm farm, with variable microbial content.
When do I add nutrients to the Worm Juice?
Only add/mix your nutrients in the spray tank as you’re heading out the farm gate. The microbes will begin to consume the nutrients and multiply, drawing down on the dissolved oxygen - this is why we want to avoid mixing and storing for periods of time.
Is there a withholding period?
No, Worm Brew does not require withholding periods.
What is the shelf life?
Worm Brew is shelf stable for 3 months. This period can be extended by adding a cheap air stone to the container to prolong dissolved oxygen levels.
Will Worm Juice Clog sprayers?
Our Worm Brew is filtered to 200 micron. We have not had any issues with clogging equipment. For a specific filtering requirement, give us a call on 07 3195 6969.
How to store your Worm Juice?
Store in a dark shed, away from direct sunlight.
