The Farm
Rissmerino, operated by Trevor and Linda Rissmann alongside their son Alan, is a family farming enterprise with over 100 years of history in Southeast Queensland, near Goondiwindi. The mixed operation on 'Rosedale' includes a Well Gully Poll Merino stud, Angus cattle, and cropping focused on forage crops to fatten livestock. They manage their flock using rotational grazing and implement other strategies such as multi-species pastures and lower input cropping.
Why Worm Brew?
Alan Rissmann chose Worm Brew, aiming for “increased biological activity in our soils,” which they view as essential for nutrient uptake and overall plant and soil health.
Application and Results
Applying Worm Brew with a recipe of fulvic acid and trace minerals, Rissmerino integrates it into their soil management practices. Alan reflects, “Honestly it’s so hard to know what is and isn’t working... But we know that biologically active soil is a vital part of mineral uptake by plants.” This approach to soil microbiology aligns with their broader goal of fostering resilient pastures and crops to support their livestock. Further applications of Worm Brew are in the works.
Recommendation
“Yes,” Alan says, recommending Worm Brew to other farmers seeking to enhance soil biology.
